Chronic kidney failure is a kidney function disorder characterized by increased levels of toxic (urea creatinine) in the blood as a result of the inability of the kidneys to filter the body's metabolic products which are irreversible. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of chewing xylitol gum with the reduction of thirst in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis, This research is a type of quantitative research with a quasi-experimental design using a one group pretest posttest design without control group to 31 samples from 212 patients populations undergoing hemodialysis in sentra medika cibinong hospital in 2023 using the technique purposive sampling. Based on the normality test kolmogrov smirnov show the data is normally distributed (p 0.05), and the parametric paired t-test gets a p value of 0.000 (0.05) meaning there is the influence of chewing xylitol gum with the reduction of thirst in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. The conclusion is thirst level before chewing xylitolgum is moderate thirst, thirst level after chewing xylitol gum is mild thirst, and there is a influence chewing xylitol gum with the reduction of thirst in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. Suggestions for research this is expected Suggestions in this study are that Sentra Medika Cibinong Hospital can hold lay seminars on the benefits of xylitolgum to overcome thirst in patients undergoing hemodialysis with the hope of increasing discipline in limiting fluid intake and morbidity and mortality can be avoided due to excess fluid volume. Hubungan Pengaturan Cairan Dengan Tingkat Xerostomia Pada Pasien yang Melakukan Hemodialisa di Sentra Medika Cisalak Tahun 2023

2023•Koleksi Perpustakaan

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global public health problem with an increasing prevalence and incidence of kidney failure, poor prognosis and high treatment costs. The replacement therapy that is most chosen and performed by CKD patients in Indonesia is hemodialysis. Someone who is undergoing hemodialysis therapy will experience difficulties in controlling thirst which is caused because the patient has to limit fluid intake. If fluids are not maintained or there is excess fluid between dialysis sessions, it will have an impact in the form of weight gain, edema, and increased blood pressure. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between fluid management and the level of xerostomia in patients with chronic kidney disease. The type of research used is correlational analytic research with a cross sectional approach. The sample uses Total Sampling, so the number of samples is 74 people and analysis of research data uses the Chi Square test. The results showed that from 74 respondents the level of Xerostomia in patients with chronic kidney disease who underwent HD showed that almost half of the respondents experienced mild thirst, namely as many as 30 respondents (41%). The results of statistical tests using Chi-square obtained a value of P = 0.000 (P <0.05). Based on the P value, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between fluid regulation and the level of xerostomia in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing HD. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between fluid regulation and the level of xerostomia in chronic kidney disease patients undergoing HD. Future researchers are advised to be able to replace variables with adherence to fluid regulation using audio-visual and health education.
